Bristol Community College is exploring the introduction of Microcredentials at the college in both academic areas and workforce training areas. We have identified core topics and in-demand needs and we are reaching out to industry partners to weigh in on this initiative. Please participate in this very short survey and if you’d like to know more, we are happy to meet to share more in-depth information and hear more about your needs.
A Brief Overview of Microcredentials:
A Microcredential is a record of learning achievement much like a certificate or a degree. However, as the name implies, it has a much narrower focus. Microcredentials target specific skills, ability, or knowledge and can usually be completed in one semester. It is recognized by industry as having added value for employment purposes.
Before a Microcredential is approved, it must be endorsed by at least one outside organization. The endorsement will recognize that the knowledge and skills are relevant to the intended employment areas, and that the Microcredential will be recognized in the job application process.
A Microcredential is a digital icon or badge which has metadata. The metadata includes transcript information, such as what was learned, when it was learned, and the outcomes. Students can put the digital icon on their social media profiles or resumes when applying for jobs.
As we build industry partnerships around this initiative, we thank you for your input as the college strives to meet industry and learner needs.
