MassHire Greater New Bedford Workforce Board has recently enrolled five new apprentices into the CNC Operator Registered Apprenticeship Program.

We at MassHire Greater New Bedford Workforce Board and our regional partner the Greater Brockton Workforce Board, are proud to announce that four out of the five new apprentices in the Computer Numerical Control Operator Apprenticeship at AccuRounds in Avon, MA, are females.  Additionally, we are proud to announce that these are the first females in our Region to enter our Registered Apprenticeship Program.

According to the Machinist Demographics and Statistics in the US, only 7.4 percent of all machinists are women, despite the Advanced Manufacturing industry’s gender gap, women are now defying these occupational stereotypes and making considerable progress in the male-dominated field of Computer Numerical Control occupations.

Registered Apprenticeship is a proven solution for employee retention, training, and recruiting. According to the US Department of Labor, the number of active female apprentices in the US has increased from 9.4 percent in 2014 to 12.5 percent in 2019.

We are hoping that women will continue to transform the industry and continue to increase the percentage of females in the CNC Operator/Advanced Manufacturing occupations.
