TRAINING & JOB PLACEMENT About the Course This hands-on course is designed to give students a basic understanding of welding. The student will have the opportunity to learn by doing. The following areas will be covered: • Welding processes GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (Stick) •Weld techniques, joint types & position •Weld wire and consumables •Material identification • Torch cutting processes - plasma & oxy-acetylene •Using hand tools & shop safety •OSHA 10 and Hot Works certification About the Program The Greater New Bedford Workforce Board and Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School have joined efforts to help increase the number of qualified skilled Tradespersons. This free opportunity is funded by the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development. Where: Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School 476 North Avenue Rochester, MA 02770 Prerequisites • Be present every day and on time • Serious, committed and ready for work upon completion of the program – placement assistance is provided • Basic math, reading and writing skills • Basic computer skills (typing, logging in, app opening) • Pass CORI • Ages 18+ and high school diploma or equivalent Orientation: Thursday, October 3rd • First Day of Class: Monday, October 7th • NO Classes: 11/25 - 11/28, 12/24 - 12/26 • Last day of School: Monday, January, 6th 2025 This is an adult education course offered afternoons Monday through Thursday from 4:00 - 9:00 PM Students completing the program will be prepared for entry level jobs and will earn OSHA 10 & Hot Work Certification upon class completion. Class size limited to 10 students. No cost to eligible applicants.
