Matt Sutton Veterans Employment Representative/DVOP Specialist

The MassHire Greater New Bedford Career Center has been named the 2026 Gold Award winner through the Jobs for Veterans State Grant Performance Incentive Awards, recognizing the Career Center’s outstanding commitment to serving veterans.

Presented annually by the MassHire Department of Career Services, the awards recognize Career Centers that demonstrate excellence in helping veterans access employment services, training, resources, and meaningful career opportunities. The award reflects the efforts of the entire Career Center and its collaborative approach to working with community partners and employers to provide coordinated services for veterans.

MassHire Greater New Bedford Career Center was selected for its strategic approach to partner collaboration, innovative programming, and investments in modernization that have strengthened staff capacity and service delivery.

A key component of this work is the Career Center’s “Consultation Table” model. Through weekly consultation sessions, Career Center staff work directly with representatives from Veterans Inc. and programs including the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, Call of Duty Endowment, and Supportive Services for Veteran Families. Bringing these partners together allows referrals to become real-time, face-to-face service coordination, helping veterans connect more efficiently with the employment and supportive services they need.

Matt Sutton, Veterans Employment Representative and Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Program Specialist, plays an important role in coordinating individualized career services for veterans throughout Greater New Bedford. Since joining the Career Center in 2020, Matt has worked closely with Career Center staff and community partners to ensure eligible veterans receive the priority services and specialized assistance they have earned.

“This recognition reflects the commitment of our entire Career Center team and the strength of the partnerships that support our veterans,” said Sutton. “Our shared goal is to make sure veterans receive coordinated, individualized assistance that helps them move toward meaningful and sustainable employment.”

The 2026 Gold Award recognizes both Matt’s dedicated work and the broader team effort that makes comprehensive veteran services possible. It also marks the Career Center’s third consecutive statewide recognition for its veteran services, following a Bronze Award in 2024 and a Silver Award in 2025.

MassHire Greater New Bedford Career Center also congratulates MassHire Downtown Boston Career Center, the 2026 Silver Award recipient, and MassHire Central Career Centers, the 2026 Bronze Award recipient, for their commitment to serving veterans.
